  • *Please note* Do not use the most current Unity Editor for this course or you will have trouble when it comes to setting the aspect in week 4.4 ,as the newest editor has different aspect menu. I have redone this course in the 2019 editor that the course is created on and it makes the course much easier to follow.

  • I am hard of hearing and this course started with subtitles. Now I am not only trying to learn this without subtitles, I also cannot see any transcript for this video. There are big Disability Accessibility issues with this course. This is disappointing.

  • Closed Captions seem to not be enabled in week 3's videos??? :(

  • That was pretty straightforward. thankyou.

  • Looking forward to it! Thankyou for the introduction.

  • The potential for medical use in wearable tech excites me. There is such great potential in the aged and disabled sector.

  • The possibilities seem endless if I try to imagine the world 10 years from now. I think of a future where mobile technology is more environmentally friendly (sustainable) and more environmentally interactive (AR)

  • I use my android mobile phone with Android/Google platforms to access this course. This means I can do my coursework almost anywhere. The touch screen makes things easy to navigate and the phone can be carried around in my pocket .

  • Looking forward to hearing about new developments!

  • my favorite part of week 1 was both the history of physical computing and the examples of what physical computing is being used to enhance our world around us.

  • Angela Sharp made a comment

I did not understand Physical computing but after this weeks lessons, i do now understand.
Looking forward to next weeks learnings.
    thankyou

  • Hardware: BBC Micro:bit, Raspberry Pi (and/or laptop), LEDs, Fan, SmartThings switch, and plugs, wires etc.

Sensors are Micro:bit (temperature, light), LEDs and Smart switch (detect output from Micro:bit)

actuators are Micro:bit (LEDs), Smart LEDs, Smart switch (turns fan on)

Software is Python programming software, transfer of programme to Micro:bit...

There should definitely be guidelines on
    - asking someone’s permission before you take their photograph or film them
    - asking someone’s permission before sharing their photograph or film on social media
    - how to secure their Raspberry Pi and/or wifi network?

    Implied isn't responsible enough.

Guides should be written for both The child and the...

  • This has really streamlined the citizen developer process. Much like what i saw with the Edison robots coding system. less time figuring out the code and more time to get creative!

  • Think about the physical computing device that you chose in the previous step. Solar setup with batteries and mobile phone app.

What role do the output transducers, or actuators, play in your device? they measure the energy coming into the solar panels and also they monitor battery health, ie, heat, component's working (like fans) capability.

  • Angela Sharp made a comment

on our solar setup and battery the input transducers are relaying the information to our mobile computer, so an app can show us the energy being produced and whether the system is running correctly.

  • Does Lorraine’s fun home solution gives me many ideas! :D
Using Lorraine’s example as inspiration, what simple issue or problem would you use physical computing to solve? could use a similar setup with waterproof sensors and lights to show the temperature of bathwater or spa water.

  • In my environment right now, - physical computers are laptop, Mobile phone
What are they doing? They are both helping me learn and communicate from and to the world outside this room.
Are you controlling them or are they automated? i am controlling them. but they do have automated functions running.

Can you think of other areas of life where you’ve seen...

  • based on what I have learnt from this course so far I think they all are physical computing devices.

  • I admit my knowledge of physical computing and electronics is limited, I worked on the other side of the screens mostly. ;)

So I was always of the impression that computer processors are the "activator tech" to facilitate the movement of energy in the electronics to activate, adjust or deactivate the mechanics of the different types of machines they worked...

  • The course appears nicely rounded in the more important aspects of physical computing and I look forward to all of it! Not really surprised about anything I see in this course, seems like a good introduction to further study and better understanding of the subject.

In the home i was surprised to learn that, there is a microprocessor (computer) even in the...

Hi, Name is Angela Sharp. I have worked my way from Graphic Design Artist through to Manager of a Graphic Design Studio with Interstate and International staff. I went onto Study Big Data and programming, have an interest in ML and AI and I am doing this course to learn more about the tools I work on/with.
    Thankyou for this opportunity.

  • Decisions or planning which could be informed by my prediction on

'Which of these homes will flood during a severe weather event?'

are council zoning and development proposals, planning of storm-water drains and levees, transport routes, community infrastructure ( placement of evacuation center and community crisis resources, first responders centers...

I had no problems understanding this part of the program, it was explained well and easy to understand.
I have learnt much more about the computational algorithms used to perform the analyses and am eager to put what I have learnt into practice.
    Thankyou.

  • I have had some practical experience with Scikit-learn tool and the python programming language libraries.

Scikit-learn provides a range of supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms via a consistent interface in Python.

Strengths - I like the community and open source sharing platforms based around this tool and the python language.

  • 1. This course is my first real delve into the many popular algorithms. So I don't know of any other popular algorithms.

    2.
'3blue 1brown' on YouTube are really good at explaining the Neural network algorithm and have been a great resource for me.

  • Hypothetically I would want to collect data in categories of Players - Health, Environment, Performance and Team relations.

Why: I would determine this Classification with the clustering of research data sourced from the 'data categorization which other sports managers use' to create classifications which I then believe these would be the industry averages...

*jokes* Institutionalized/constrained vs free range! lol

I found some terminology that appears to be the same word but different meanings! ie. Bias. I have found this term confusing across the range of statistics and ML papers.

  • Are these machines intelligent? under most current definitions: Yes. I could philosophy bash here but i just say- the main 'food for thought', for me, is that not so long ago in human history; humans believed animals and disabled people (in many instances, also women and other minority groups) were not intelligent life forms...

i am on a VMfedoraOS and it took me quite a bit of time and a lot of reading, google searching for the right answers for my OS and reading answers that helped others in the same situation to figure out how to get that all installed! But i finally did it! :) lol

It has been a very long time since i have done any coding (over 10 years) so i found i struggled a bit when we hit the java part of the course. the sample code was good to have. i did find as i went back to review over week 2 i understood it much better and hope that with further revisits to my course notes and a second try at that last exercise, i will become...

  • This was the only exercise in this course, which I struggled with. I will come back to this later as a personal challenge. I also have memories of finding Java script frustrating!

I have found my learning experience this week has inspired a lot of data driven questions and my own thoughts about how to apply all this learning to Life and work. *mind exploding with ideas* ;)

Week 1 has taught me a lot and i am excited to learn more!
I have learnt about the 3 (or 4) V's - Volume, Velocity and Variety (and Veracity), the big data wheel,...

From my perspective, big data means: data that is too large to process efficiently without mathematical algorythms and computer power.
Large amounts of data accross many departments which needed to be brought together to assess the ongoing needs for the business in everything from purchase orders to financing and sales/market trends.
    The data analysis which...

  • The definition of big data which i find most useful is: The definition 'Inconvenient Data'!This is really such a great way to define it and would be a good way to explain it to people across all levels of experience.
In the video, i find Johnathon's comments interesting where he states that big data can "...uncover the relationships between pieces of...
