In this program you will study a wide range of topics from an introduction to BIM, defining a range of BIM terminology, the roles and responsibilities of BIM from industry experts, the BIM information delivery cycle and planning a successful BIM project.

You will reflect on your own professional practice from a wide range of roles to learn why BIM adoption can improve different aspects of construction management.

Danny McGough

Danny McGough is the course director for the Construction Management with BIM online course at Coventry. He's worked on a number of complex research projects focusing on BIM & sustainable development.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this program, you should be able to:

  • Evaluate the historical issues within the construction industry, the advantages that BIM offers compared to traditional projects, and understanding BIM’s role in satisfying government targets.

  • Summarise the meaning of BIM, its terminology and why it is needed in industry.

  • Define the need for standards, methods and procedures, a collaborative way of working, and the positive implications this has on producing structured data on projects.

  • Discuss the roles and responsibilities to facilitate verified data exchanges.

  • Identify the key elements of the information delivery cycle and their key activities, including common data environments, employers' information requirements and information delivery.

  • Explore the pre- and post-contract BIM Execution Plan and its core content, its relationship with the employers' information requirements, and its role during the procurement process.
