Discover the importance of basic economics to management accounting techniques

This program takes a practical approach to the economics of logistics and supply chain businesses from a management perspective.

Its aim is to provide you with economic frameworks and concepts and to teach you to use them within mathematical, statistical and software tools to calculate the cost and price of logistics services.

You’ll also explore how to forecast activities and allocate resources while taking economic factors into consideration. Many of these quantitative tools can be used for management decision-making, forecasting and as predictive models.

Nick Wright is a Senior Fellow of the HEA and a Fellow of the CILT with over 30 years' experience in global logistics senior management roles in Europe and the USA.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this program, you should be able to:

  • Appraise the economics of supply and demand applied to logistics and supply chains

  • Evaluate key cost structures, revenue generation and investment appraisal methods

  • Critically appraise the key approaches to costing and pricing of logistics activities

  • Formulate forecasts and models of basic logistics activities using simple statistical and mathematical tools

  • Apply appropriate techniques to judge the financial performance of a logistics or supply chain business
