Inequalities in Science, Technology and Innovation Research in the Region, and their Consequences

In this presentation Guillermo Anlló, Regional Programme Specialist in UNESCO’s Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Programme, offers an overview of how we know that the generation and use of knowledge are one of the crucial aspects of the many dimensions of inequality in the region.

We discuss the apparent paradox whereby science, technology and innovation appear to be at one and the same time potential generators of opportunities for closing equality gaps and potential threats, insofar as they have the potential to generate new forms of inequality. This is where good policy can be decisive.
