NLM-NCBI now also enables phenotypic AST data to be uploaded, to facilitate the development and population of the National Database of Antibiotic Resistant Organisms (NDARO).

This enables the development of an important community resource to further our understanding of the mechanisms leading to the development of AMR and to develop solutions to the growing problem of AMR. The database can be found here and is an extensive resource of phenotypic results that also have SRA submissions. It should also be noted that phenotypic AST data can also be uploaded to ENA as well; detailed instructions can be found here.

M. tuberculosis (with no MIC data) and MIC data (for other AMR pathogens) can be submitted at the time of SRA submission through the Submission Portal or the Biosample Antibiogram submission pages (see these template files for MIC and non-MIC data). Template files can be found in Step 3.14. When submitting AST data, in order for the data to be useful it is vital to capture the method of the laboratory typing method and the testing standard that was applied to generate the result, these were described in Week 1.
