Digital learning is the enactment of connecting complex ideas and practices that provide new opportunities for diverse, global and social learners and learning.

This week, we explored some of the key concepts and theories in relation to who learns online, when, how and why.

Key ideas

In summary, some of the key ideas we talked about include:

  • how technological advancement has disrupted (and continues to disrupt) education globally
  • the ways in which learners and their needs are changing and becoming more diverse and complex
  • why life-long, life-wide learning is critical for people and jobs of the future
  • what opportunities and challenges digital learning raises for the future of education
  • how learning theories like Connectivism help us to understand the role of networked learning and meaning-making as these occur via interactions with digital tool and platforms
  • the complex mix of networked, mobile and social learning theories and tools in the digital
  • why meaning-making is a critical part of the learning process, and the unique ways this occurs in digital spaces.

Your task

Reflect on the ideas, concepts and theories that we looked at this week and summarise your own take-aways in the comments. For example:

  • What was your key insight for the week?
  • Was there anything that challenged your thinking about digital learners and digital learning theories? If so what, why and how?
  • How might you apply what you’ve learned so far to your own professional context?

You may also want to use this opportunity to post any questions you have before taking the quiz and/or test in the next steps.

Likewise, if you can see a question you can answer, keep the conversation going by using reply to respond.
