Non-titular product managers

Watch Alex Cowan talk about the role of product manager when the product management department is only one person.
There are a lot of different flavors of product management. And we’ve talked about these dimensions of abstraction and business versus engineering-facing. Each of these has their own unique challenges. Another type of product manager that I thought we would talk about is the product-focused startup CEO. Or someone in a roughly equivalent position where you are the product management department, it’s just you, you’re doing it all by yourself. I think they have the particular challenge of having to constantly balance all these things and maybe not having quite as much of a backstop from other collaborators. And so they need to make decisions about where to focus and how to invest their time to scale the business up.
So we’re going to hear from a few folks who actually do this and how they handle the job of product management.

In this video, Alex introduces a new type of product manager, one who handles the job alone. He uses an example of a Startup CEO. Before you hear from a non-titular product manager in the next video, what other roles within an organization do you think could fill the role of product manager?
