The results showed glutamine supplementation does not increase patients’ death rates, though no significant benefits toward patients also.

From this study, we know the controversial situation of glutamine supplementation. In conclusion, the reason for this opposite results from different researches is highly possible for the different glutamine supplying time, different dosages, or different levels of illness seriousness. All of these factors affect the final results of the research. For patients with cancer, and patients with a critical illness, the supplement of glutamine might have some negative impact. Therefore, we should pay extra attention when applying glutamine to these patients. Strict assessment and evaluation are required. Otherwise, unexpected negative effects might occur.
