Week 2 introduction

Welcome to Week 2 of the course! What's coming up this week?
6.6
Welcome back to module 2 of the course. I’m Hannah, your host. This week, we’ll take a look at the technical and security considerations of implementing technology. Once you’ve carefully designed your strategy pilot and planned how it will be communicated to staff, pupils and parents, you’ll need to ensure that everything is in place to make the pilot possible. Staff can quickly lose confidence in technology if what they planned falls apart in front of a classroom filled with pupils. Teachers will likely have a backup option in place, but it becomes increasingly unlikely that they’ll continue to take the leap into using technology again in the classroom, if they don’t have confidence in the hardware, software or Internet.
53.3
There are things we can do to support staff confidence with education technologies more generally and we’ll take a look at CPD approaches next week but it becomes a larger hurdle to overcome when their source of fellow confidence is unreliable technology rather than a lack of knowledge or practice. This week, we’ll be taking a look at the technical aspects you can consider and plan for, as part of your overall strategy to safeguard against this eventuality. One of the other many decisions you’re likely to be making as part of your strategy will be devices. What kind? Who gets one? How they’re funded? Or perhaps where the pupils and staff bringing their own might work.
100.1
We’ll take a look at the possibilities and the considerations to be made whichever choice you make for your context. We’ll also consider some of the other security aspects of your strategy, which with the advent of GDPR and increasing use of the cloud become all the more essential to your work. Your school’s context remains important this week and we recommend that you continue to engage in the courses discussion and reflection opportunities, so you can translate your learning into meaningful next steps for your school’s technology strategy. We look forward to learning with you all this week.

Welcome to Week 2 of the course: Leadership of education technologies in schools

This week, we focus on how you can establish the conditions for the implementation of education technologies. In this week’s introductory video, hear an overview from your course educator, Hannah Tyreman, about this week’s learning content, where we will address the following questions:

  • How can you make an informed choice about devices in your school?
  • What are the technical considerations to support an effective strategy?
  • What are the security considerations to support an effective strategy?
When you are ready, click the ‘Mark as complete’ button below and then select ‘Before we begin’ to take a moment to consider the learning that lies ahead this week.
