In the step ‘Emotional intelligence as traits: Petrides’, you were asked to think, reflect, look at the sample report and consider the following question:

Bearing in mind there are no wholly right or wrong answers:
  • What might be the advantages of a below average score on the facets of impulse control and assertiveness?
  • What might be the disadvantages of an above average score on empathy and emotion perception?
So what did you think might be the answers to these questions?
Here are some probable responses:
  1. A below average score in impulse control may indicate a passionate approach to work which can be highly beneficial to the individual and organisation.
  2. A below average score in assertiveness may suggest an important valuing of the ideas of others over oneself.
  3. An above average score in empathy may point to a preoccupation with the feelings of others, leading to potential indecisiveness.
  4. An above average score in emotional perception may mean an over-reliance on emotions to the detriment of reason when taking actions and making decisions.
