Tabletop exercises are wonderful experiences that can accomplish a number of different objectives, from raising awareness of readiness, to identifying opportunities for improvement, to training new members of a leadership team. Tabletop exercises are exceptionally effective for improving organizational crisis readiness.

While the sample exercise provided in this activity was clearly developed to help academic institutions prepare for a crisis would be more likely in their environment, the structure of their tabletop exercise guide can be easily adapted to any organization in any sector. 

It would be well worth your time, at this point in the course, to take thirty minutes or so to read through this example. You will almost certainly generate some ideas for why and how to conduct a tabletop exercise at your organization. Keep a copy of this resource handy. If you are not ready to run a tabletop exercise in the near future, someday you will want to do so. This instrument will provide a great place to begin your planning.
