Welcome to the course “History Branding: Using History to Strengthen Corporate Identity”. You will meet the lead educator, Per-Olof Grönberg from Luleå University of Technology in the video where he will tell you more about what you will learn during these three weeks. The course centres around the history branding concept, what it is, and how actors can use it.

How will I learn?

In this course, you will see filmed lectures, read articles, respond to quizzes, and discuss the different aspects of history branding with other learners. You will learn by yourself, at your own pace and in collaboration with other learners.

What will I learn each week?

  • Week 1 focuses on how actors use history in different contexts.
  • In Week 2, you’ll learn how companies and organisations use history and why history branding might be helpful. Week 2 also includes a part on so-called ”skeletons in the closet”, i.e. handling mistakes, bad judgements, and dark episodes in corporate history.
  • Week 3 will take us through six different history branding methods, such as websites, anniversary books, and museums. We’ll be looking at examples of history usage by Volvo and Coca Cola.
