Closure of the topic HRM & Innovation

This marks the end of this session. In this session, we discussed HRM and Innovation. More specifically, we looked at the link between HRM policies and practices and innovative outcomes. We discussed innovative work behaviour and how HRM contributes to innovation performance. Moreover, we highlighted several HRM policies and practices that can have a positive effect on both innovation performance and innovative work behaviours. We have used the social exchange theory to explain how these HRM policies and practices can affect these innovation outcomes. HRM policies and practices make an investment in employees which these employees enturn, reciprocate or payback by showing innovative work behaviours.

Lastly, we took a look into the future of HRM and Innovation and we highlighted that new technologies such as robotics and artificial intelligence can have an impact on the HRM and Innovation relationship. But that’s maybe something for future course!
