Welcome to week 3. This week we’ll be discussing a topic of key importance for the future of human health– Antimicrobial Resistance, or AMR for short. AMR has been in the news a lot recently. And that’s because it’s becoming a global health concern. We’ll start by telling you what AMR is. And then we’ll tell you why it’s now considered a ticking time bomb for human health. Genomics is one of the tools we can use to tackle AMR. It can be used to better understand how bacteria become resistant to drugs, identify those bacteria which are resistant, and allow the most appropriate use of antimicrobials to reduce the spread of resistance.
