Engaging on FutureLearn

The Peer Leadership Development Programme (PLDP) brings together people from diverse backgrounds, with different perspectives and life experiences. So, there may be times when people disagree. The goal is to have respectful conversations so we all need to be careful what we say and how we treat each other.

Our programme works best, if you:

Participate: This is a community. Read what other people have to say and share your thoughts.

Discuss the ideas: When responding to discussion forum posts, you may feel strongly about what was said, but it is important to respond respectfully.

Keep your passion positive: Strong feelings are great, but sharing them politely keeps discussion forums friendly. Avoid using all caps, too many exclamation points, or aggressive language.

FutureLearn’s code of conduct outlines additional community values. Your FutureLearn profile is what other learners can see about you when you interact with them on a course.

Prepare your profile

If you haven’t already, you should add some information to your FutureLearn profile.

Your profile can only be seen by logged in learners. It isn’t public, and it won’t be found by search engines unless you untick the box on the ‘Edit profile page’.

You could include your hobbies and interests, or why you’re taking this course on FutureLearn.

You could also add a profile picture. If you don’t, a coloured logo is created from your initials, but I’m sure you’ll agree it’s a lot more fun to talk to a friendly face.

Mark as complete

You’ll see a button at the bottom of each page called ‘mark as complete’. If you press this button as you progress through the course, we can see you have completed Step One and Step Two. Successful completion is required before applying for Step Three.
