Introduction to Solutioning

In this step, we find opportunities that reach our goals and boost the performance of the system.

We scan for actions we can take that help to achieve our goals, like ingredients for a meal. We then make the recipe for the meal by mapping and combining selected ingredients in the roadmap. Developing the solutions and making the roadmap are usually done in different method cycles.

We’ll provide you with some tools to help you find and optimize solutions towards sustainable systems. This is not an exhaustive set, there are many other tools available, from design and engineering fields for example. If you know any yourself, be sure to try them out.

When comes to solutioning, we tackle tools such as:

  • System solutioning approaches
  • Network solutioning approaches
  • Object solutioning approaches
  • Roadmapping

There is a number of approaches to take when finding system-level solutions. Some build from object level upwards to a systemic understanding, others use network theory to try to reach a top-down systemic effect.

In practice, you often find yourself using some bits and pieces of one approach with some of another to meet the specific requirements of your project. We touch upon each of them in the coming steps.
