Hello and welcome to the Secret Power of Brands. My name is Robert Jones, and I’ll be guiding you through the next six weeks starting with this question– did you know that the company that makes this beer has been around since 1377 and that the brand has been with us since, probably, 1717? I didn’t know that until I started looking into this. And the truth is that brands have very deep roots in our lives. They go back a long way.
They make a lot of difference to how we think and how we feel and how we act, and that’s what we’re going to be exploring this week in week one– looking at what exactly a brand is, how brands have changed over time, and how brands have the impacts that they have. We’re going to be putting forward some films and audio and slide shows and articles. Please treat all of this not as the final truth but as evidence, weigh it up, come to your own conclusions, and join in the conversation online as we get going into the Secret Power of Brands.

Robert Jones, at the University of East Anglia in Britain, introduces this six-week journey, and the topics that we’ll be looking at this week.
