Well done on reaching the end of Week 2! We hope you enjoyed it. You should now have gained an understanding of:

  • How vaccine safety is assessed and monitored

  • Specific safety concerns related to vaccine associated disease enhancement

  • The difference between vaccine efficacy and effectiveness and how these are measured

  • Why efficacy assessment of COVID-19 vaccines in Phase III studies is difficult

  • How COVID-19 controlled human infection model studies could accelerate vaccine development and concerns regarding their use

Next week, we will look at some case studies where vaccines have been used to control infectious disease outbreaks. We will also learn about the different candidates for a COVID-19 vaccine.

See you in week 3!
