Welcome to Week 3

Dr Rajeka Lazarus welcomes learners to the final week of the course, and provides an overview of the topics which will be covered.

Welcome to week 3! In the course so far we have learned how and why vaccines are developed, as well as how they are tested and manufactured.

This week we will focus on understanding how vaccines are used to control outbreaks and pandemics by learning more about what these terms mean, using case studies that will illustrate the learning points.

We will consider the current vaccine candidates for the COVID-19 pandemic and reflect on the opportunities and barriers to vaccine deployment. Finally, we will look at why and how we need to stay prepared for future infectious disease threats.

We hope you enjoy the final week of the course. Let us know in the comments what you are most looking forward to learning this week.
