  • Yes very true and it needs to be consistent so the messaging should be well thought through

  • Twitter is also a great place to go viral!

  • I agree, images are a really powerful way to engage with the audience

  • You will definitely be able to use similar skills for this, and combining that with what you are learning on this course, you will be in a good place for social media managing.

  • @HarshalChandarana Yes it's important to create a consistent brand

  • Don't rush into this and if you are really stuck, it might be worth investing in a professional to help you with a logo

  • @MariaMenduni It is important to take the time to come up with a brand that you love and can get behind, then the content should slot into this. It can be useful to prepare your content well in advance so that you have plenty of time to come up with it and make it consistent.

  • @ChideraRosecamilleAneke This does take time and using analytics to see which types of posts have caused engagement is important.

  • Ok great to identify this - as you go through the course, more should be explained on this.

  • @GladysM. That's great, you will also learn from experience so having had your own accounts is also good.

  • Yes exactly, it allows you to see what they prefer to engage with as well, allowing you to tailor to that.

  • @ArianaVillagran A great place to share video content and increase excitement and engagement with the brand

  • On the one hand I think it will reduce the huge amount of noise on twitter, making people see more interesting posts, but on the other hand it reduces some of the appeal of liberty of speech and interacting with people you otherwise wouldn't be able to. Personally I think it will mean that tweets are more interesting and reduce the negative issues of people...

  • Twitter used to be bigger with the younger audience, but now there is so much noise on the platform that more people are using Instagram. Instagram is also more engaging as when you are looking at the pictures, 100% of your attention is on this. Right now, Instagram tends to be more where consumers live, but this doesn't mean that you should abandon twitter....

  • Thanks all for taking part in this course! Hopefully you've learnt a lot, and if you'd like to do further learning there are several other free courses similar to this one on different topics :)

  • Glad to hear it! There are several other free courses if they might also help :)

  • And this helps to engage those who do not yet follow your account

  • Exactly, this helps to identify gaps and areas to focus on to improve.

  • Great, and you could even reward your biggest brand ambassadors!

  • A good point, this needs to be within what is manageable for you business. It is much better to have a couple of channels done well than to be thinly spread across a lot. Be sure to choose the channels that are most used by your target audience.

  • Rachel P replied to [Learner left FutureLearn]

Yes, and recurring presence on peoples' feeds reminds them of you and your business

  • Replying to the comments would go that next step in making customers feel heard as they get an individual response to their message.

  • Linkedin has Linkedin Elevate which allows you to schedule posts

  • As you grow this, it might be something to look into in future!

  • Yes exactly, and it is good to be aware of what is going on in the world to tailor posts to be relevant to that e.g. post for new years etc.

  • I think this will vary depending on the audience, and how often the target group check their social media on average. Don't forget that your audience are unlikely to see every single post that you do.

  • Yes, as with any job it depends how you manage your time!

  • The need to use the customer to develop products - fail fast and move on with ideas

  • Thanks, It is very important to highlight these differences in use across different geographies

  • It's great to use images to show off the products to customers, and a well thought out caption can really make a strong media presence.

  • I would also say Facebook for college students as lots of events are organised through this channel, drawing students onto the platform. But yes, instagram is probably more relevant for the younger generations.

  • Exactly, and this should be carefully thought out to ensure that even as the messaging and images change per post, that there is a consistent branding overall.

  • And this will vary person to person depending on your algorithms and what Facebook believes is relevant to you!

  • That's a great point, however if doing this you should make sure that they are all done to a high standard. It is better to do 1 or 2 really well than to use lots of platforms with less effect.

  • Great, but don't forget that people from work could see your facebook too, no matter what your privacy settings are

  • @HamedKhademipour A great way to get more people engaged through a seemingly more organic campaign

  • A great lesson to us all!

  • This varies depending on how many accounts/ channels you are managing and the frequency of posting on them

  • For each of the key skills listed in the job description, what examples could you give to demonstrate your potential in these areas?

  • What tools can you use to carry out social listening?

  • Why do you think measuring the performance of a social media campaign would be useful to a business? What could it help to facilitate?

  • Hi all, welcome to the course, if you have any questions as you go through, please post them in the comments section and I will endeavour to answer them!

  • A Key Performance Indicator is a measurable value that demonstrates how effectively a company is achieving key business objectives. Organizations use KPIs at multiple levels to evaluate their success at reaching targets. High-level KPIs may focus on the overall performance of the business, while low-level KPIs may focus on processes in departments such as...

  • Great to note the regional differences :)

  • Brilliant! Linked in can be a great way not only to connect but also to see what other people are up to professionally - this can open up new opportunities with people you might not otherwise keep in touch with!

  • It's great to try out a range of tools and see what works for you and your brand

  • I hope it's useful for you!

  • It is great to relate some of your posts to current affairs to remain relevant and engaging. Relating promotions/ messaging to events, such as the world cup, pride, etc. can really increase customer engagement.

  • Exactly, you want to avoid creating 'noise', and ensure your posts are relevant, interesting and engaging. Try to consider what you hope the response to be to each post.

  • A brilliant example of using tactics to promote further marketing via customers sharing content online - definitely a channel worth investing in, if appropriate to your brand

  • Great, a good social media campaign builds customer trust, and if they are able to deliver great customer service once you choose to go with that brand, they are likely to keep that customer for future purchases.

  • A brilliant example of effective social media use

  • Great, don't forget that what you put online is never private so your linkedin connections could likely find your personal facebook if they wanted to!

  • I hope through this course you'll be able to increase your digital footprint to have positive impact!

  • Some great examples here of how useful social media listening can be and the different ways you can effectively respond.

  • Great! There are many tools available that can really help to measure the impact of social media campaigns.

  • Aside from personal needs, there are people who have influence across groups, such as Donald Trump. Although he divides opinions, he does create a reaction and response so in many ways his twitter especially does have influence across multiple groups.

  • It's great to approach people with a personalised message, perhaps something you've seen on their profile that interests you, or something you could discuss together. You can post about whatever interests you/ what you want to be known for - consider your personal brand and how it is you want to be seen, then do posts relevant to this. Posting an article...

  • You can find several examples scrolling through this link https://twitter.com/JulieSweet - Accenture's CEO using social media to spread her messages

  • Great responses here - it's really important to think about the context of what is right for your use. Each use has different audiences who will respond to different content. Glad to see everyone's really thinking through this!

  • There are different tools you can use for this, such as Hootsuite, or if you are doing it yourself, you can analyse posts to see which times have the greatest response.

  • Lots of research has been done to uncover which groups are using which platforms, for example over 60% of every age group are on facebook, whilst 71% of snapchat users are under 34 years old. You can find stats online to consider what your target audience will best respond to. This also needs to consider other factors e.g. if advertising for a professional...

  • @MohamedGhasia I agree with @TamaraMuroiwa - these are also an indication of the 'typical' person within different groups, there will be exceptions too!

  • Yes, a great point!

  • Social media sites make money from advertising, many of them could not run without them!

  • Thanks all for completing this course - I hope you've got some tips to take away with you to help you on your social media journey!

  • @SabinaSanzio @PatriciaBenvenuti The aim here is to listen to your audience. This can be most effective by asking questions e.g. a tweet asking what people's favourite food is will generate responses as to people's preferences. These responses are then really useful for understanding your audience and you can use this to adapt/ grow your business

  • You need to think about what is most relevant to you - if you are trying to get people to interact with the brand then comments etc. are a great way to measure this, or you may want to measure the reach of the post e.g. traffic/ clicks on the post this would give an indication of the size of your interested audience

  • Each KPI is different so it is up to you to choose KPIs that are relevant to your business or personal goals.

  • Rachel P made a comment

I hope everyone is excited to see what the next section of the course will be teaching!

  • Exactly! More and more companies are using this as their first port of call when researching someone who has applied to a job

  • Twitter did this to allow users to be more expressive. 9% of tweets in the English language were exactly 140 characters, suggesting that people often had to edit their thoughts to cut down what they wanted to express!

  • Your clickstream data, search data, purchase data and profile data are collected from your online activity, often through cookies to see your internet use history, and this is used, sometimes through algorithms to tailor adverts to you.

  • We'll be looking at a range - twitter, facebook, linked in, etc. Join us to find out more!

Hi all, welcome to the course. Happy to answer any questions and I look forward to discussing the topics with you!

  • I believe automation will remove the demand for low-skilled workers and so require a higher level of education from the retail workforce to complete more value-adding tasks.

  • I wouldn't mind my shoes being filmed but as most people have a wide range for different occasions I'm not sure how much you can determine for certain about the shoes someone wears on a particular day.

  • I always give feedback on experience e.g. hotels as its such a difficult decision to make without reading other peoples' experiences.

  • Is it possible for retailers to see what reviews you've read on other websites? If so this could be used to understand why a customer might remove something from the basket.

  • A much smaller brand but Gracefit UK has very effectively used social media, mainly via her personal instagram page, to create and grow the brand to reach the Gen Z audience.

  • What sort of sample size for research validates the feedback to ensure a general trend rather than person-specific niggles?
