Celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month with FutureLearn
June is Pride Month, which celebrates gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and asexual people, and all other sexual orientations and genders. It’s celebrated in June to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which instigated the first major demonstrations for gay rights in America. Brenda Howard, a bisexual activist, organised events including a march to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the riots. She is known as the ‘Mother of Pride’.
During Pride Month, marches and educational events take place all around the world to celebrate gay pride.
