Finding solutions

Brief description of what the topics for the second week of the MOOC will be.
People holding up pieces of a puzzle
Welcome to Week 2! In Week 1 we learned about what health literacy is and considered how people deal with its core components: accessing, understanding, appraising and applying health information.

During this week we will review some approaches which can potentially reduce the negative effects of unmet health literacy needs in healthcare settings. We will learn about the Universal Precautions approach, which mostly works on the healthcare system level, and one other approach that works at the patient level; the person-centred care approach.

You will also learn about health literacy and empowerment in the context of these two approaches.

Finally, we will reflect on ways how health professionals can identify people in limited health literacy within healthcare situations.
