Summing up Week 1
Congratulations on reaching the end of Week 1! Hopefully, you feel that you have a better understanding of the weather systems which bring the UK, and other mid-latitude countries most of their weather, as well as the basic physical processes which govern how all the atmosphere behaves.
By the end of this week you should feel that you’re happier:
describing the weather features associated with depressions,
interpreting a synoptic or weather chart, to provide details about wind speed and direction, precipitation and cloud cover,
and describing some of the physical processes which give rise to weather, such as convection, condensation, pressure gradients and the Coriolis force.
We showed you some practical demonstrations which we hope you had the chance to try for yourself. Use the comments area below to discuss your current weather in terms of what you have learned this week.
We’ve provided a comprehensive list of online teaching resources to accompany each week, which you may find useful – particularly if you’re a teacher. You can download this here.
