The following are key points to take from the material we have covered or will cover in this section:

  • Remember that earlier we compared men’s football in 1930 and in 2014 by looking at the countries involved in the first and most recent FIFA World Cups, along with some facts.

  • We looked at some of the characteristics of global football and began to question whether the term global is an accurate term.

  • In this final discussion, we have should start to talk about some of the objections to the term global football.

  • If you link all the information we have covered this week together, you should be able to provide an answer to the question ‘Is football a global game?’ and provide some facts or evidence to support whatever you want to argue. You have the information to argue for or against the proposition that football is a global game.

What’s next?

In the final parts of Week 2, we will move on to look at the big five football leagues in the world and how different Presidents of FIFA have influenced the development of the game.

The key thing to think about here is economic power and people power and how it is used.
