The difference between a pre-university and a university environment
Being in higher education is about learning to think and work at a higher level.
This manifests itself in your ability to appreciate what an essay question is asking of you, to have an opinion, or stance, and to use the essay to develop a well-supported, persuasive argument. You will not be expected to do this brilliantly when you arrive – this is what higher education is for, to help you develop these skills.
You do not work to a formula at university. Develop you own style and develop ideas freely without a formula but with a very tight self-developed structure which enables you to describe, analyse, synthesise and evaluate topics you are given. It is an exciting freedom which allows you to develop independently and learn for your own benefit and your own progression.
