Introduction to Week 2
Welcome to Week 2 of Medical Equipment Donations to Low Resource Settings.
Last week, we discussed how you might decide what to donate, and the importance of considering all steps in the equipment lifecycle to ensure the donation will be both useful and sustainable.
This week, we will look at the more practical aspects of donating, including sourcing the equipment, key supplies to include with the donation, and budgeting.
By the end of the week, you should be able to:
- Evaluate the different options available when sourcing equipment to donate, considering quality, the pros and cons and sustainability.
- Apply the Hippo model of hidden costs of equipment ownership for the receiving institution and additional supplies for donations.
- Produce which costings to include when budgeting for the cost of a donation, and describe an example of how to structure a budget.
- Debate specific issues around the donation of equipment during the Covid-19 pandemic, including the problem of counterfeit PPE.
Can you think of and share in the comments some of the main options you might need to consider when buying equipment?
