Summary of Week 2

What have we learned?

During week 2 we have explored in more detail how visceral leishmaniais is recognised and confirmed and how it is treated. We have learned that there are only a few drugs which can be used to treat VL and that they are far from perfect. We have been heard from experts in the field that that VL is not a straightforward disease and many cases are complex requiring complicated treatment.

What will we head towards now?

The next week will focus on the sand fly vector and how it spreads VL. Ways to control disease transmission will be discussed, taking in to account difference between endemic settings of VL.
