FRB Against DSS Induced Colitis Model

video
15.4
Here is food intake and water intake during the DSS treatment. Within 3 groups, food intakes and water intakes is not statistically different. I show body weight change and disease activity index. Body weight is actually reduced in control group and non-fermented rice bran treatment group. But in case of fermented rice bran treatment, body weight loss is not observed. Regarding disease activity index, control and non-fermented rice bran groups showed very high disease activity index, bloody stool and also diarrhea. But in case of fermented rice bran, disease activity index is significantly lower compared with two other groups. So this means fermented rice bran can protect DSS-induced Colitis or inflammation. So, Here is…

And here is colon length, spleen weight and spleen length after the DSS treatment. Usually, DSS treatment occurring the colon shortened. So control group and non-fermented rice bran, its colon length is shorter. But in case of the fermented rice bran I didn’t show normal length of the colon, but fermented rice bran group’s colon length is almost similar to the normal mice. So this means fermented rice bran group is not occurring or prevention of occurring of the DSS-induced colitis. And also, you can see some histological analysis data Control group, non-fermented rice bran group observed epithelial cell damage and also infiltration of some immune cells.

But in case of the treatment of fermented rice bran intestinal, histological analysis observed was not, normal, looks normal. And also we checked myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity in the colon and TBARS value. Myeloperoxidase activity is significantly lower, and TBARS value also lower in fermented rice bran groups. And also we checked the inflammatory cytokines in the serum. So inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and TNF-α also reduced in both groups. And expression of mRNA in the intestinal inflammatory cytokines, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β and chemokine expression also quite significant reduced in fermented rice bran group. So this mean fermented rice bran can prevent DSS-induced inflammation or colitis.

DSS has demonstrated its function of inducing ulcerative colitis in murine models. Administrating FRB to the UC mice, the research team found that FRB could not only improve body weight change and disease activity index (DAI), but also help prevent colon shortening and colon epithelial damage. These results suggested that FRB acquire anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects.
