Benefits and considerations for following an apprenticeship route

Each routes into Higher Education presents its own set of benefits and considerations. Here we explore what these are for apprenticeships.

Let’s summarise some of the potential benefits of following an apprenticeship route into Higher Education…

Firstly, you won’t need to pay tuition fees. So when you graduate you won’t have any student-fee debt.

As you study, you will be able to apply your skills and knowledge in practical ways.

You’ll be earning a salary as you learn.

You’ll be gaining work experience and skills that are relevant to a particular career.

With a degree apprenticeship you will gain a degree that will be recognised by employers.

However, there are some things to consider regarding this route into Higher Education.

For example, other routes, such as a traditional undergraduate degree that isn’t an apprenticeship, potentially may offer more opportunities to get involved in university life. While all students in Higher Education have to think about time management to some level, this is particularly important for apprenticeship routes. You’ll have to carefully balance work and study.

If you’re still unsure if this is the right route for you, don’t worry! In week 2 we’ll be looking at additional ways that you can research your options, including attending open days and events, carrying out further research online and using your networking skills.
