Welcome to week 2, as we consider how football has become a global spectacle. This is much more contemporary. In week 1, we looked at the history. In week 2, we look at how football has become a global spectacle. You will have regularly heard about football being referred to as a global game. Is it really played in every country of the world? What do we mean when we say football is a global spectacle? One of the really important things this week is to be able to consider the relationship between the global game of football and the local game of football. What is the relationship between the global and the local?

How did the big football organisations– the global football organisations– affect football in your local community? We think about global finance. We think about global technology. We think about players moving around the world. So at the heart of this week– week 2– we consider whether the game of football is really a global game, and what its impact is on your local community. I hope you enjoy week 2.
