Story - Episode 1: I am João

Learn how to introduce yourself.

1. Watch the video. João and Carla will show you how to introduce yourself.

2. Here is the interaction from the video: Listen

João: Olá. Eu sou o João. E você?

Carla: Olá. Eu sou a Carla.

João: Muito prazer.

Carla: Prazer.

A less common option is to omit the article when introducing yourself, so there is no need to consider gender in the syntax:

Eu sou João.

Eu sou Carla.

Note: as it is less common, some speakers may feel it is incorrect.
