Spelling your name and email

Spelling your name and email.
Jul...? como se escreve?

1. Spelling your name.

Follow the two questions below: Listen

Como se escreve? = How do you write it?

Como se soletra? = How do you spell it?

A word-for-word translation may be: how does one write it?; how does one spell it? All you need to know for now is that se refers to anybody in general.

Let’s follow this short interaction with the audio: Listen

Como é o seu nome? = What’s your name?
Juliana.
Como se escreve? = How do you write it?
J – U – L – I – A – N – A
E o seu sobrenome? = And your last name?
Rossi. R – O – S – S – I.

2. To spell an email, we need two more words:

@ = arroba Listen

. = ponto Listen

Before Carla left the museum, she exchanged emails with João. Let’s follow their interaction:

Carla and João exchanging emails Listen

João: Qual é o seu email? = What is your email?

Carla: ca.schmidt@lcf.com.br

João: Como se escreve?

Carla: c – a – . – s – c – h – m – i – d – t – @ – l – c – f – . – com – . – b – r

João: Você tem facebook? = Do you have facebook?

Carla: Tenho. É o meu nome e sobrenome. = I do have. It is my name and last name.

4. In the comments, use Vocaroo to spell your mock email (do not use your real email). Wait for an answer where another learner writes what they hear, then you confirm if it is correct or not. Example:

Learner 1: (Vocaroo link goes here – spell your email).

Learner 2 writes: james.smith@gmate.com?

Learner 1 replies: Correto! (Correct!) / Incorreto. (Incorrect.)
