Surveillance of viruses in a population

You will learn about how surveillance for coronaviruses and their variants works in Argentina in the PAIS network.

In this recorded lecture, you will hear from Dr Carolina Torres from the Proyecto Argentino Interinstitucional de genómica de SARS-CoV-2 (PAIS). PAIS is sequencing SARS-CoV-2 to characterise if variants are detected in the circulating virus. This is very important to track the ongoing evolution of the virus.

Efforts like these around the world help to detect variants quickly, and allows scientists to study their impact on the human populations in their country.

Please visit the PAIS website for more information about their network. The website is in Spanish, but most browsers can translate the page to your language.

Last week you learned about SARS-CoV-2 variants, can you comment on the impact of any particular variant in your country?
