Choosing a project

Choosing a Project

In the previous section you have heard about some inspirational projects. You may have noticed that there are some recurring themes they mention when discussing their successful projects.

In this video Dr SanYuMay Tun, a true inspiration, will discuss things to consider when choosing your project.

Dr SanYuMay Tun is the lead for education for sustainable healthcare at the University of Oxford Medical School. She has written an undergraduate curriculum, EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE HEALTHCARE: A curriculum for the UK.

In the following ‘how to’ section we will hear from various healthcare professionals and at different stages in their careers about their projects. Through their experience and guidance we hope you will acquire the tools that will help you undertake your own projects.

Some things to consider:

  • Choose something that you care about
  • Choose something that will have impact
  • Consider low hanging fruit
  • Allow your project to evolve
  • Form a tribe of like minded people to help you achieve your project
  • No matter how big or small your project is if it is visible it will make others ‘stop and think’.
  • Many of us currently work in silos, sometimes even within the same department! We need to start working together and across the globe. Collaboration is key.
  • Look to see whether your idea has been successfully completed somewhere else. Can learn from them? How did they manage their challenges and how did they ensure their successes?

The most useful piece of advice I received was:

“Allow for your project to evolve!”
