Welcome to our course!

I am Dr Shabbir Syed-Abdul. In this course, I have invited guest educators to discuss one of the hottest topics today in healthcare – the internet of things (IoT). “IoT” is the internetworking of physical devices, vehicles, buildings and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators and network connectivity that enable these objects to collect and exchange data.

We will begin by exploring some of the practical issues happening in healthcare today. Then we will suggest some solutions to answer these problems, looking at the role the Internet of Things can play in healthcare. Dr. Luis and I will also go through a literature review to introduce current developments in health IoT. E-patient Dave, who advocates patient rights in healthcare ecosystem, will bring us the patient perspective on these health-related technologies.
