How to use of some grammars or sentences, differences in the use of particles. In this week we are going to learn ‘-어/아요’.

-어/아요

(Attached to a verb or an adjective) It is used to state the speaker’s opinion or the facts.

This is the most common way to end a sentence, and with a different accent, it can also be used to suggest an acitivity to someone.

For example, a sentence “불고기 먹어요” can have two different meanings depending on the accent of the speaker: ① it can be a descriptive sentence stating someone eating Bulgogi or ② it can be a 청유문 asking someone to have Bulgogi with the speaker.

If the vowel of the last syllable of the verb stem or an adjective is ‘ㅏ’ or ‘ㅗ’, ‘-아요’ is used; for other vowels, ‘-어요’ is used. In case of ‘하다’, it is changed to ‘해요’.

* ex1. 불고기 먹어요. (Let's eat bulgogi.)
* ex2. 같이 가요.(Let’s go together.)
