Welcome to the Microsoft Future Ready: Introduction to Big Data course.

Overview

This course introduces learners to key concepts and terms relating to the storage of data, as well as manipulating and reporting on that data in the context of Microsoft Azure. Learners will be shown how data can be stored as files and in different forms of data stores, both relational and non-relational.

You’ll be given practical examples of the tools and technologies within the Azure platform, both for common data storage and for big data problems. You’ll also be introduced to the concept of the three Vs, which helps learners understand what classifies an issue as a big data problem.

Who is the Course For?

This course is for learners who want to prepare themselves for further exploration of big data through other courses in the Microsoft Future Ready ExpertTrack, as well as learners who want a broad introduction to the concepts of big data and data storage.

Course Schedule

This course is set up in a self-paced format. You can listen to the lectures and attempt the quizzes at your own pace. Try to finish this course in 8 hours; it should take you around 4 hours a week for 2 weeks to complete.

Course Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for taking this course. Technical IT experience is not required; however, some general IT knowledge or experience would be beneficial.

Meet your educators

Graeme is a senior software engineer and a senior content developer, who specializes in data science at Microsoft.

He joined Microsoft in 2014 and holds an MSc from the University of Sterling.
