Draft Agreement Update -3-

Draft Agreement Day 3

Moving to Action at COP26

A new Draft Agreement was published early this morning. A deal must be agreed by the end of the summit, which is due to be completed by 1800 GMT today 12 November. It is expected that negotiations could continue into the weekend.

Early in the day Dave Gorman, Director of Social Responsibility and Sustainability at the University of Edinburgh and COP26 Observer, tweeted @DaveGormanUoE

..lots more to come on the negotiations. Perceptions depend on whether COP26 should do something really big (get us on a 1.5 degrees pathway, fix historic injustices, provide enough money for adaptation and loss and damage..) or whether this is real progress for a UN process.

In a statement COP26 president Alok Sharma called the Draft Agreement a step closer to a “comprehensive, ambitious and balanced set of outcomes”, but acknowledged more work is needed.

At 1700 GMT Beth Christie recorded this video as hundreds of delegates walked out of COP26 to join a protest outside the summit expressing frustration at a lack of results from the conference on its final day.

This is an additional video, hosted on YouTube.
