Elderly and active aging

In different culture or country, elder or aging may have different definition.
First of all, I will briefly introduce the definition of Aging. There are several definitions of aging in different countries, so first of all if we look at the dictionary, You will see the definition of aging implies deterioration In Japanese, sometimes means just the advancement of age so that’s as a kind of the broad definition of aging. Also the definition include the growing process. That means the maturation of infants into adults But also the definition of aging in the aspects of physiology You can see that is regression of physiological function accompanied by advancement of age. That means also all of the structure and functional changes that occur through the lifespan from embryonic development through maturation and senescence.
And there are different types of aging we call usual aging and successful aging. The usual aging means the changes occurring in older people that represent the aging process is separated by disease and adverse environment and lifestyle factors such as smoking or a disease or as a bad habit or bad a dietary intake. Successful aging means that age-related chains have not been argumented or accelerated as a result of a disease environmental influence or lifestyle. That means you can successful live until the death.
The following I would, I would define some of the terminology usually the definition of elderly, we will say the people ordered a 65 years old, usually we call those population the elderly but sometimes there’s a little bit different in different countries. For example in the USA we usually define elderly, those who are above 65 years old. That’s because of the medicare and also the full Social Security benefits and also the age of the retirements is 65 years old. So 65 years old is the cutoff point for elderly.
However, and the law protection age is 55 years old, so you can see if in the expect of law protection age who will say 55 years old above or above can have the law protection. However, if you want to have the Social Security benefits you have to be above 65 years old. We also cut into different elderly age we call young old elderly that means 65 to 74 years. Oldest-old elderly that means the age above 85 years old. So we everybody want to have active aging. What is activating? The active aging is the process of optimizing opportunities for health, participation, and the security in order to enhance quality of life as people age.
It applies to both individuals and population groups. So I think that’s the the reason why I want to talk about it today and to promote everyone can have active aging.
Demographers and researchers typically refer “baby boomers” as starting birth years ranging from the early-to-mid 1940s and ending birth years ranging from 1960 to 1964. Thus, they are in the age range between 54 to 78 now. As mentioned in the video, “elderly” means people over 65 years old. These baby boomers are either inbetween or getting in. That’s why aging become popular issues nowadays.
In the video, Prof. Chao then will introduce some theories scientists consider the causes of aging.
