Welcome to this Preparing for Higher Education Course designed and delivered by Arden University My name is Gail Archibald I’m a lecturer in the School of Digital Education with over 20 years experience in supporting first year higher education students Both those who are fresh from school and those who have been away from formal education for many years Regardless of the student’s academic background or motivation to study, I’ve come to realise that there are several myths that students believe about what it means to be a university student and about their own ability to be successful Weeks one and two have been designed to bust these myths and build your self resiliency so that you can start your educational journey feeling confident rather than being plagued with self-doubt In week three, we will explore what it means to be an effective team member, participating communities of practice, and how to give and receive feedback constructively Finally, during week four, we will introduce you to some free digital tools that you can use to support your studies For example, tools for making notes during lectures Ones to store resources for easy access Ones for mind mapping, making posters and infographics, and even want to help you with referencing throughout the first week and those that follow, you will have an opportunity to take part in discussions with people from all over the world who are completing the same course I would really like to encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to do that You may learn from other people’s experiences and discover that you are not alone in sometimes feeling slightly overwhelmed Don’t be shy Don’t worry about your English or whether you think your ideas are good enough We are all here to learn from and support each other Lets start the discussions each by sharing a little about ourselves You could tell us where you live, what you plan on studying, where and how So at a university campus, online or via a blended model and what your motivation for studying is You may be surprised to find someone who will be studying the same course as you or going to the same university

Let’s start the discussions by each sharing a little about ourselves. You could tell us where you live, what you plan on studying, where and how (at a university campus, online or via a blended model) and what your motivation for studying is. You may be surprised to find someone who will be studying the same course as you or going to the same university.
