What has all this got to do with writing at university?

The process of writing at university.
12.3
Writing is a process. Going through the writing of a personal statement has taken you through a process. Whether or not this is a task you currently need to do, the process is actually what is most important. First there is brainstorming, working out what you already know. If this is for an assignment, then it might be that here you discover there was a lot you don’t know. This is where you could start with some research, you might use a mind map here, to trigger your thoughts. Second, there is organization of thoughts, you need to work out, of all the ideas and research you’ve done, what is relevant or irrelevant.

This can be hard because you might have done some good research, but really, what you’ve found is not relevant and you have to discard it. Thirdly, you need to get writing, this can be really hard but get a first draft down, tell yourself it is a first draft, you’re not trying to write the first and only copy. Fourthly, you need to reflect, review and be self-critical
