LIZ CLUETT: Have an idea and talk to as many people as you possibly can before you actually do anything.
DRAGANA MLADENOVIC: Make sure you really like the thing that you are about to research.
DAVID READ: So it’s worth putting some thought into that. Secondly, it’s really important to know what’s been done before.
FILIPPO FAZI: So number two, try to understand whether that has already been done by someone else.
RUTH BARTLETT: So find out what other people think about that topic as well.
DAVID READ: Find out what you can learn from experts that have worked in the field previously.
RUTH BARTLETT: Do lots and lots of reading and also lots and lots of talking to other people and listening.
JON COPLEY: So keeping good notes as you’re going is really important.
LIZ CLUETT: And then make sure you pick a topic that is really passionate to you.
DRAGANA MLADENOVIC: Because research can be very tough. It can be a lonely place.
FILIPPO FAZI: That’s perhaps the underlying truth.
DAVID READ: And finally, be prepared to stick with it for the long term. These things always take time, and Rome wasn’t built in a day.
