Summary of week 1

Summary of week 1 - resourcing
5.4
This week we have outlined the challenges which face the STEM sector and the positive impact which you can have as a STEM Ambassador or volunteer by delivering practical activities that appeal to young people. You have examined a range of resources and where to find them and we have encouraged you to source your own resources and practise accessing the STEM Ambassadors’ collection on the STEM Learning website. Finally we considered the need to understand the context and location and be critical when selecting resources for practical activities. Next week we are going to highlight gender, special educational needs, young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and what the implications are for adapting resources to use in practical activities.
52.3
You will build on this knowledge and use it to adapt your own chosen resources. It has been great working with you in Week 1 and we look forward to working with you again in Week 2.

Well done for completing the first week of the course, and the first week of the Inspiring Young People in STEM program.

This week you have:

  • Discovered how volunteers play an important role in relating STEM to young people.
  • Found where to get ideas for practical activities by looking at resources available.
  • Started to consider how these resources and activities may need to be adapted for different audiences.
