Welcome to Week 1

Introduction to Week 1
6.8
Welcome to week one of Train the Trainer– Design, Genomics and Bioinformatics Training. I’m Rachel Berkson. And I’m education manager at Wellcome Connecting Science. I’m Alice Matimba from Wellcome Connecting Science. I develop and organise training in genomics and bioinformatics in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. This week we’re going to introduce some basic principles of how adults learn. And talk about what you need to consider when designing training for people who use genomics in their research or work. You will be able to share your experiences with other learners and hear from experts involved in bioinformatics training programmes. We look forward to meeting you this week. Please use the comment area to ask questions and discuss your learning.

We will be available throughout the week to guide your learning. And we’re looking forward to taking part in the conversations.

Week 1 educators are welcoming you to the first week of the course – in this video they are talking about this week’s learning.

At this point in the course, we would like to ask you about your expectations of this course are – reflect on those and if you like, share them with your fellow learners using the comment area below.

This week is an introduction to the project-based course – where you will be working on your own course design, receive feedback from other learners and review their work too.

Even though this is the very start of the course, please start planning and thinking about what you want to design – do you have your own current project you want to work on? Alternatively, think about an idea to work on as practice.

We are using lots of references and resources in this course. Some are linked in the steps they are relevant to, and many are compiled at the end of the course in the References and Resources step. Do read as much as time and interest allow you, working at your own pace.
