Skip to 0 minutes and 5 secondsOver the next three steps, we are going to look at a range of different ways our teachers have used scaffolds to support their students with their learning. We will see the teachers using different thinking organisers to help students build meaning, help desks as supports zones in their classrooms, for students to access when needed. We would like you to think as you watch the videos about how you might successfully use approaches similar to those taken. You may want to focus on issues like subject, topic, the practicalities of managing the ideas, and any questions you may have about the approach.

Ideas for scaffolding the learning

Andrea discusses the range of approaches we will see our teachers using in the following steps to scaffold the learning.

  • Step 4.5 shows some of our primary teachers using a range of thinking organisers
  • Step 4.6 shows some of our secondary teachers using a range of thinking organisers
  • Step 4.7 shows some of our primary and secondary teachers using help desks

Whilst watching the videos we would like you to think about how you might successfully use approaches similar to those taken so you may find it useful to make notes as you progress through them.

In Step 4.8 we will be asking you to share the ideas in the next steps that you would like to have a go at implementing. We ask you to share your thoughts by contributing a short summary of your thinking to the discussion on Step 4.8 and to respond to at least one of the summaries contributed by other learners.

Points we suggest you focus on are:

  • Subject
  • Topic
  • The practicalities of managing the ideas
  • Any questions you may have about the approach
