Dietary guidelines can help us make better decisions about what we eat.

Key ideas and principles

Dietary intake is one of the key modifiable determinants in the complex mix of biopsychosocial factors impacting mental and brain health.

This week we unpacked the statistics on diet and mental health. We learnt that diet and mental disorders are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the world.

Research points to a link between diet quality and mental health. It appears the better diet quality is, the better mental health states are.

So this week, we explored some of the foundations for both mental health and diet. Basic knowledge of these concepts will be useful in the coming weeks to better understand the relationship between diet and mental health.
