Next week: Doing a health assessment
Well done on completing Week 2.
You should now know more about the difficulties people with intellectual disabilities can face while communicating. You have learned about building rapport, about using language and about non-verbal communication techniques too. We hope you also feel a lot more comfortable about communicating with someone who has an intellectual disability.
In Week 3, you will learn more about carrying out a health assessment with someone who has an intellectual disability.
We will return to the idea of reasonable adjustment, this time looking very specifically at how it might work in the assessment room.
You will learn how to create and use documents that are easy to read for people with intellectual disabilities. You will also be encouraged to share any documents you have made yourself. We will be exploring the area of consent and discussing the idea of building ‘relationship-based care’.
