We’ve considered breastfeeding from a number of perspectives including rates across and within countries, cultural practises, barriers to engaging into breastfeeding, and potential solutions for improving both breastfeeding initiation and the maintenance of breastfeeding to six months and beyond. We’ve also considered the only alternative to breastfeeding, infant formula, and why it’s vital to support women who’ve chosen to replace breast milk or to add infant formula to their breastfeeding regime. It’s now time to start looking forward to what you’ll be learning about in week 2.

Skip to 0 minutes and 59 seconds The next six months is full of food, not just milk, in all its flavours, colours, and textures, which is why in week 2 we’re going to focus on what to feed, when to feed, and how to feed it, all with a view to support you to feeling more empowered to continue your child’s food journey. Our goal in week 2 is to help you, help your child to love the foods that will promote the best health now and for the rest of their lives, an important and achievable aim. We look forward to taking you on this colourful, messy, and mostly rewarding journey. See you again soon.

What's on for next week?

While the first week of our course focused on an infant’s first six months of life and was all about milk, the second week of our course is all about food – colourful, delicious, messy food!

In this exploration of the second six months of an infant’s life, we’ll look at:

  • cultural differences
  • when and what to introduce as first foods
  • what the science tell us about when to introduce solids, what to introduce, and how.

We’ll also focus on useful advice and practical advice for parents when it comes to food rejection and fussy eaters.

We look forward to seeing you again next week on this most important of journeys – supporting you to raise a healthy, happy eater.
