Or how should you deal with issues professionally in a support function? Is there a code of conduct within higher education institutes in general? Actually, what is professional behaviour, and why is it important? Week 1 of this course will be all about professional behaviour. This week, you will meet many students assistants with various roles within the University of Groningen like Jon for example. They will tell their professional story, present a framework concerning professional behaviour, guide discussions, and connect theoretical concepts with real-life examples. But first, why is it beneficial to involve students in organisations of higher education?

Introduction to Week 1

In this step, Klaas will introduce you to Week 1.

The week will start with exploring the various roles students can have at an higher education institution. We will use the University of Groningen throughout the course as a good practice to showcase how students can be involved in an organisation. Browse through the online portfolio or listen to the interview with the vice-chancellor, Elmer Sterken.

In the second part of Week 1 we will focus on professional behaviour in an academic setting. The professional behaviour framework - developed by the students of Nestorsupport (the helpdesk of the online learning environment of the University of Groningen) - will be presented.
