Thermodynamic status

  • There are three thermodynamic status: unstable, stable and metastable.

  1. Unstable status will spontaneously change into stable or metastable status.
  2. Stable status is in energy minimum or equilibrium state, and will not change its status
  3. Metastable state is not the lowest energy, but does not change status easily. The metastable status needs stimulus, or energy to change its status.
